Salt Lake City is currently hiring school crossing guards to meet back-to-school demand. Crossing guards are paid $13 per hour (one shift is one hour), and work morning and late afternoon shifts. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and undergo a required 10-year criminal background check.
Salt Lake City crossing guards assist approximately 11,600 children daily in safely navigating routes to and from schools at key locations citywide. They remind drivers of the presence of pedestrians and how to correctly share the roadways.
While actively assisting children across busy streets, crossing guards also demonstrate pedestrian safety guidelines that help children develop the skills necessary to be responsible for their own safety at all times.
“This is an ideal position for a student, young person or dedicated community member,” said David Tola, Crossing Guard Program Supervisor. “Crossing guards have a great sense of fulfillment from helping kids get to school safely. College or university students are an especially great fit because they can attend class in between morning and afternoon shifts.”
