COUNCIL: January 8 Meeting Recap

At Tuesday’s meeting, the Council:

  • selected a new Chair and Vice Chair to lead the Council in 2019. Charlie Luke was selected to serve as Chair, and James Rogers was selected to serve as Vice Chair. Charlie Luke represents Council District Six, and James Rogers represents Council District One.  
  • received an update on the process for selecting a Council Member to fill the District Four vacancy. Applications will continue to be accepted through January 15. The Council will begin interviewing candidates at its January 22 meeting and will make a selection by January 31st at the latest. The Council may make a decision as early as January 22. Once selected, the new Council Member will serve through the remainder of the term, which ends in early January 2020. More information about the application process can be found at the City Recorder’s website
  • was briefed about the draft Salt Lake City Foothill Trail System Plan. The Plan is designed to serve as a vision for sustainable recreation in the Foothills natural area. The goals for the trail system are to be environmentally sustainable, enjoyable, accessible, safe and low-maintenance. 
  • was updated on the Inland Port Authority Board, including the ongoing search for an executive director and the Board’s recent tour of the future port area.
