COUNCIL: Feb. 12 RDA Board and Council Meeting Recap

At Tuesday’s meetings:

  • the Council discussed development of the block where the City’s fleet equipment and servicing were previously located (between 300 and 400 West and 800 and 900 South). The Council received an overview of what the Granary community would like to see developed on the site, along with existing site conditions. The Council indicated that it may be interested in adjusting the current zoning in order to allow for green space, a priority for the community. The next step is for the Administration to issue a request for proposals for developers who are interested in developing the site, which will likely include 100s of units of housing, a portion of which would be affordable units, along with commercial development. The Council will continue to discuss this topic in the coming weeks and months.
  • the Council discussed the City’s Housing Trust Fund Program. In recent years, the City has issued a number of loans for affordable housing, prompting this discussion in addition to the creation of a joint working group for housing policy. Conversation centered on housing policy, particularly loan forgiveness criteria and ongoing revenue sources.
