COUNCIL: Recap of February 11 Council and RDA Board Meetings

At today’s meeting, the Council:

  • held a planning retreat and discussed potential projects and ongoing needs for the coming year including varied topics such as transportation, focusing on services for our most vulnerable populations, addressing parks funding needs, development and housing opportunities in ways that support our neighborhoods, and equity for all our neighbors. Mayor Mendenhall attended the workshop and shared information about work in her Administration that relates directly to the Council’s interests. The Council and the Mayor stressed their desire for collaboration and the potential for shared priorities. The Council plans to continue its discussion at a March meeting.
  • The Council, acting in its capacity as the Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City (RDA) board, approved a resolution authorizing a loan of up to $1 million to Diamond Rail Apartments LLC for an affordable housing development located at 535 West 300 North. The mixed-use, mixed-income development would include 80 residential units, with 55 units being affordable to households earning 50% or less of the area median income.
  • The Board also heard a 6-month update on the City’s Housing Funds and how City departments will be collaborating on the loans and programs.
