COUNCIL: June 4 Council Meeting Recap

At today’s meeting, the Council:

  • approved a resolution to extend the Mayor’s March 10th local emergency proclamation relating to COVID-19 (coronavirus) until July 10, 2020. This is the Council’s third extension of the proclamation. Per State law, the Council as the legislative branch needs to review and approve extensions of local emergency declarations. Approving this extension allows the Mayor to continue to respond as the emergency evolves.

Upcoming meeting note: Although today’s meeting did not include any budget items, the Council continues to review and discuss the Mayor’s Recommended Budget for Fiscal Year 2020-21. The tentative schedule will likely extend until Tuesday, June 16, to allow additional time to consider the public’s feedback, questions and concerns. The Council received thousands of emails and phone calls in addition to the nearly 200 public comments during the June 2 formal meeting. Though the formal public hearings for the proposed budget were closed that same evening, the Council wants to schedule additional discussion time for the important budget issues, especially related to police, housing and other items.
