The Capital Asset and Real Estate Services team (CARES) consists of two teams, the Capital Asset and the Real Estate Services Teams. The Capital Asset Team provides guidance and administration for the City’s Capital Assets which includes significant infrastructure with a useful life of more than five years and typically costs more than $5 million and is financed by bonds or other special funding sources. Examples of these types of assets include fire stations, police precincts and other buildings that provide public service. The Capital Asset Manager is the individual who plans, organizes and implements property development strategies as well as initiates project proposals, supervises construction processes and ensures financial accountability of projects. As part of team, the Capital Improvement Project Specialist helps to coordinate allocation recommendations of Capital Improvement dollars and Impact Fees for the funding of select infrastructure projects based on a long term Capital Facilities Plan.
Under the direction of the Real Property Manager, The Real Estate Services team provides oversight for the City’s vast real estate portfolio and manages activity in the Public Right-of-Way including encroachments, vending cards, special events, entertainer’s and artists as well as all telecom infrastructure. Property disposition and acquisition is also an important function of this dynamic team and is done in close coordination with the Capital Asset team using City-owned real estate to facilitate important service expansion throughout our City that comes with the explosive population growth. Both teams bring over 70 years of combined real estate experience to Salt Lake City and help create lasting value for Salt Lake City residents.
