RECAP: June 5 Council Meeting

At Tuesday’s meetings,

  • The Council continued to discuss the Fiscal Year 2018-19 Budget, focusing much of its conversation on unresolved issues. The Council received preliminary numbers that show tax revenues are about $530,000 higher than previously estimated. The Council took multiple straw polls, giving preliminary approval to fund needed parks maintenance in existing parks and open spaces. The Council held its second budget public hearing. Next week’s Council meeting on June 12 will feature more budget discussion, a final budget public hearing and potential final action.
  • During the Formal Meeting, the Council heard from about a dozen individuals who spoke about police use of force, and their preference that fewer new police officers be funded in the upcoming budget.

The Council interviewed several people for various City boards and commissions before approving their appointments in the Formal Meeting.
