Responsible dog ownership keeps your dog, you, and our environment healthy

Love taking walks with your dog? Responsible dog ownership contributes to the success of our dog parks and allows everyone to share and enjoy public open spaces.

  • For everyone’s safety, keep your dog on leash on the street and sidewalks, in parking lots and at trailheads—anywhere not specifically designated off-leash.
  • Avoid letting your dog roam off-leash onto a neighbor’s property.
  • Pick up and properly dispose of your dog’s waste. Thanks for keeping our neighborhoods and open spaces clean!
  • Enjoy allowing your dog to be off-leash in designated areas. Salt Lake City has seven off-leash areas in addition to newly designated areas at Fairmont and Rotary Glen parks, and morning/evening off-leash hours at Wasatch Hollow and Warm Springs parks. Visit Salt Lake City Parks website for more park info.

Salt Lake County Animal Services has an owner support program to help pet guardians be the best they can be “with the goal to sustain the highest quality relationship between pets and their caregivers.” Visit Salt Lake County Animal Services website for more information on the program.
