Southeast Market Rezone

In October 2020, the Council approved a rezone petition submitted by the owner of properties located at 402 and 416 East 900 South – known by many in the Community as the Southeast Market. Read Council Member Mano’s statement about his vote.

This action rezones the two properties from RB (Residential/Business) and CN (Neighborhood Commercial) to CB (Community Business).  Note, this is a separate step from plans for development or construction. No development plans have been submitted for this property. This graphic (En español) provides an overview of the request and the different requirements for each zone.

The final ordinance will include a zoning condition that would ensure 900 South is declared the front yard of this parcel.

Background:

Some may remember that the Council was briefed on the rezoning proposal and held a public hearing in late 2019, but postponed action. Some Council Members then met with the applicant and concerned residents to further discuss the proposal. A second public hearing was then scheduled in April 2020 but was later postponed per the applicant’s request.
