Last year, a rezone petition was submitted to the City by the owner of properties located at 402 and 416 East 900 South – known by many in the Community as the Southeast Market.
There have been some questions about the rezone and impact to the surrounding community and we wanted to share more information. This graphic provides an overview of the request and the different requirements for each zone.
Currently, the properties fall within two different zoning districts. The property owner would like to rezone the properties under one zoning district for consistency purposes. This is a separate step from plans for development or construction. No development plans have been submitted for this property. The graphic also shows the types of uses that are allowed in each zone.
Some may remember that the Council was briefed on the rezoning proposal and held a public hearing in late 2019, but postponed action. Some Council Members then met with the applicant and concerned residents to further discuss the proposal. A second public hearing was then scheduled in April 2020 but was later postponed per the applicant’s request.
The Council is tentatively scheduled to discuss the rezone petition at their September 1 work session before holding follow-up public hearings in October (dates TBD). In the meantime, you can still email your comments or call the 24-hour comment line, 801-535-7654.
