Although The McGillis School garden is more petite in size, featuring six raised beds each 4 x 6 feet, it incorporates multiple sustainable methods of cultivation including drip irrigation, a pollinator garden and a variety of cultural plants. It is a fully fenced enclosure that also contains a shed stocked with a community supply of tools for gardeners to utilize while they work. The garden is managed by a parent committee with teacher liaisons and students. Volunteers are always welcome to join the efforts to maintain the grounds. The mission is to encourage a connection to the land and good food while providing hands-on opportunities to learn about ecology, community gardening and sustainable agricultural practices. For more information visit the garden’s website.
