April 11-17, 2022 declared as Small Business Supplier Diversity Week in SLC

WHEREAS, Salt Lake City recognizes that small business plays a critical part in the economic prosperity of the state and communities it represents; and

WHEREAS, the resources our Federal Government and Salt Lake City provide to small businesses reflects the commitment to the local economy and respects the determination inherent to the small businesses who are the backbone of our Nation; and

WHEREAS, Salt Lake City recognizes the U.S. Small Business Administration 2021 Profile reports that Utah is home to 313,590 small businesses which make up 99.3% of all Utah businesses, and of those businesses, a combined 54.1% are owned by women, racial minorities, and veterans; and

WHEREAS, small businesses are a significant part of our local economy, accounting for 92% of all businesses in Salt Lake City, and the monies spent within our communities should reflect their importance; and

WHEREAS, supplier diversity is a vital part of the small business community we live and thrive in; and

WHEREAS, we understand by spending dollars within our local community we are reinvesting to grow small diverse businesses; and

WHEREAS, supporting small businesses and supplier diversity contributes to the American dream; and

WHEREAS, we acknowledge and honor the significant contributions of small businesses in Salt Lake City and thank them for enriching our community with their people, services, and goods.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Erin Mendenhall, Mayor of Salt Lake City, proclaim the second week of April as:
