Valerie Wilde was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before moving to San Diego, California as a teenager. In California, she attended San Diego State University, receiving her bachelor’s degree in political science. She had an interest in the law which culminated in a juris doctorate from California Western. In 1992, she moved to Utah with her husband and family. Valerie has spent most of her career in government service. Her career started at the Utah Department of Workforce Services focusing on labor related issues before she accepted a position with the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s office in their litigation unit. At the District Attorney’s Office, she worked on complex civil rights matters including policy development. She was the first woman director at the District Attorney’s Office where she participated in developing county-wide policy to ensure gender pay equity. She also worked with County Sheriff’s Office on the development of jail polices which provided transgendered rights. She continues to enjoy the many opportunities her legal education has provided to make positive change.
