Cross Connections

Cross-connection control keeps our water clean

A cross connection is any actual or potential connection between our drinking water and other water sources that might introduce contaminants into the drinking water supply, such as secondary or used water and industrial fluids.

We work to prevent this contamination by monitoring and providing oversight of connections to our water distribution system. This effort alleviates the possibility of water back-flowing from residential, commercial or industrial consumers into the distribution system.

Everyone can help by monitoring water use and connections within homes or businesses.

For information related to back-flow prevention in water systems, contact Dustin White, Cross-Connection Control Manager, 801-483-6867 or dustin.white@slcgov.com

The Utah Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has extensive information about cross connections and back flow prevention, including rules, laws and permitting.
