Community artwork highlights west–east divide, invites public to help shape solutions

Feb. 5, 2026 Community members and Salt Lake City leaders unveiled papel picado art along 900 South between 500 West and 600 West on Thursday morning. It highlights long-standing barriers between the City’s west and east sides and invites residents to shape solutions.  Westside residents created the colorful paper banners—a traditional Mexican art form—in partnership with Artes de México en Utah to draw attention to the negative effects of the west-east divide and encourage community participation in the City’s West-East Connections Study (WE Connect), […]
