Public Services Mission Statement

Public Services is a team of professionals who value integrity, diversity, and equity. We are committed to providing essential municipal services and accessible public spaces for Salt Lake City by investing public funds effectively, efficiently, and sustainably to make life better throughout the community.


Admin Services

The Administrative Services Division provides coordinated direction and support to carry out the department’s goals and policies. This division provides budgeting, financial, capital and strategic planning, training, security and safety services, and provides customer service for the community concerning services the department provides. This division also oversees and coordinates the communications, information, emergency, and contract management functions of the department.

Compliance

The Compliance Division is responsible for the following services and operations: parking enforcement, the impound operations contract (towing and the impound lot are contracted services), school crossing guards, pay station maintenance, and the Main Library Parking Garage. These operations enhance safety and accessibility for residents of and visitors to Salt Lake City.

Engineering

The Engineering Division manages construction and any related activities that take place in the public right-of-way and aspects of City-funded construction projects sponsored by other divisions and departments, like Public Lands, RDA, and Public Safety. Engineering is also responsible for mapping services used by internal and external staff, all survey work and controls for subdivisions, and new roadways.


Facilities

The Facilities Division is an internal service that provides maintenance and repairs to City buildings, including the City & County Building, Public Safety Building, Parks & Public Lands Building, Sorenson Multicultural Center, Smith’s Ballpark, and every Salt Lake City fire station, to name a few. This division is additionally responsible for building security and maintaining Salt Lake City’s downtown and Sugarhouse business districts.

Fleet

The Fleet Division is an internal service that maintains, repairs, and procures City vehicles, equipment, and machinery. On a quarterly basis, Fleet contracts with TNT Auction to repurpose vehicles and recapture revenue.

Streets

The Streets Division provides the following vital customer services to Salt Lake City residents: snow and ice removal, roadway maintenance, concrete and sidewalk replacement, roadway striping and repairing, and replacement of street signs and signals.
