Arbor Day celebrations to include tree plantings by Mayor Biskupski and a school observance

On Friday, April 29, Mayor Jackie Biskupski and her family will plant a tree at Westpointe Park to celebrate Arbor Day and the power of community and volunteerism.

Salt Lake City’s Urban Forestry Program has been working with non-profit organization Tree Utah, as well the Westpointe Community Council on the event. Dozens of volunteers will be on site to help plant 35 trees throughout the park.

At 10 a.m. on Friday, city urban foresters will also be on hand at Salt Lake City’s Open Classroom, where students in first through third grades will help plant four trees on a school park strip.

Salt Lake City is home to more than 80,000 trees on public property.
