Welcome to the Salt Lake City Building Permits Office
Salt Lake City offers electronic building permit application and construction plan review submission in an effort to provide orderly, transparent, accessible, and equitable service.
To apply for a building permit, start by registering an account or logging in to the Citizens Access Portal, then apply for a permit under the Building Tab.
After the permit application has been submitted, construction plans and documents needed for plan review are submitted to ProjectDox . Check your email for submission instructions.

If additional assistance is needed to complete the permit submission process, staff and computers are available in our office Monday – Friday 8am-5pm.
Not sure if your address falls within incorporated Salt Lake City’s jurisdiction? Look up the address using an interactive map of Salt Lake County’s jurisdiction boundaries. Magna, Kearns, Emigration Canyon, and other unincorporated Salt Lake County districts are serviced through the Greater Salt Lake Municipal Services District.
Applications are reviewed in the order they are received electronically. Building Permits are issued to provide minimum requirements to safeguard the public safety, health and general welfare and safety to life and property from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment. No person, firm or corporation shall erect, construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, improve, remove, convert or demolish any building, structure or premises, or make any installation, alteration or improvement to the electrical, plumbing or mechanical system in a building, structure or premises, or cause the same to be done, without first obtaining the prescribed permits for each such building or structure or premises from the building official.

Payments
Questions about payments should be directed to the Salt Lake City Treasury.
Payments can be accepted and tracked online through Teller. We encourage you to register an account to track payment history. Payments can also be made by searching your permit application through the Citizen Access Portal.
Payments can be made in-person through the Cashier’s Office @ 451 S State St #225. A paper copy of the invoice is needed to process a payment.
Paper check payments can be accepted via mail by mailing the payment with the appropriate invoice to the Salt Lake City Treasury. Checks received without an invoice cannot be processed.
