Salt Lake City has a Mayor/Council form of government. The City Council is the legislative branch and works with the Mayor to serve residents.

The Council sets city policies and approves the annual budget. Each Council Member is elected to a four-year term and represents one of the city’s seven districts with similar population sizes.
