Gallivan Center Kicks Off Holiday Season with Annual Lighting Celebration

The Gallivan Center will host its annual holiday lighting celebration on the plaza Wednesday, November 29th, from 4-7 p.m. The ceremony will illuminate over 350,000 lights, including a 60’ tree at 5:30pm following welcome greetings from Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski and Council Member Derek Kitchen.

The celebration kicks off with family friendly activities, entertainment, and of course ice skating. Admission is free into the event, but activities such as ice skating, face painting, hot chocolate, and food from Fry Me to the Moon Food Truck are available for purchase. DJ Jon Smith will play the festive tunes, Santa Claus and holiday carolers will be on site, American Ice Theatre of Utah will do a fantastic ice skating performance as well as host a winter clothing drive, and CenturyLink, sponsor for the ice rink, will be on site conducting a toy drive and other fun activities.

CenturyLink is proud to partner with the Toys for Tots Foundation who provide toys to less fortunate children. Toys for Tots is in need of new, unwrapped toys for ages 0-14 years. Please donate at the event or find more information at: https://salt-lake-city-ut.toysfortots.org.

The American Ice Theatre of Utah will be hosting a warm winter clothing drive to benefit The Road Home. Please bring all warm winter clothing items (new or used) to their donation table at the event.

Our holiday lights are going green this season with help from Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky renewable energy program. By supporting renewable energy to match the electricity powering the lights, Blue Sky customers are helping us reduce our carbon footprint by about the same amount as taking 8 cars off of the road for a year or planting 1,000 trees.

The ice rink will be open on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. More information is available at TheGallivanCenter.com or by calling (801) 535-6117. Special thanks to CenturyLink, KUTV Channel 2, Rocky Mountain Power, Salt Lake City, and Yelp Salt Lake City for making this event possible.
