Accessibility and Disability Commissioner: Margo Thurman

Margo has a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from the University of Utah and a Master’s in Special Education, along with administrative certification from Utah State University. She was with Granite School District for 31 years in various roles, including a special education teacher, district coordinator, and an elementary assistant principal. She co-formed Epilepsy Alliance of Utah in 2011, which merged with Epilepsy Foundation to become Epilepsy Foundation Utah in 2016. She served as executive director until June 2020 and currently serves on the board. She has trained police, fire departments, businesses, vocational representatives, teachers, families, and the public about epilepsy. In 2022, she assisted in passing the Seizure Safe Schools Act with the Utah Legislature. She has been on the Board of Utah’s Council for Exceptional Children and the Salt Lake League of Women Voters. Margo enjoys serving on the Commission and feels that both her professional experience in working with the disabled and personal experience as a person with epilepsy gives her understanding and knowledge on both sides.
