Apply for Home Repairs

The Home Repairs Program gives grants to Salt Lake City residents for health, safety, and structural home repairs. If you are a homeowner, you may apply for funding.

What You Need to know

Applications for this program are open year round.
This process takes 4-to-7 months.
Funding can be as a no- or low-interest loan.
You must have a lower income with major repair needs to be funded.
The maximum funding amount is $50,000.

Before You Start

Before you start, read the description of this program. Make sure you understand what this program can do for you.

You will submit applications in Neighborly. Before you apply, you should register on the website. You should also collect required documents and check that you qualify for funding.

How Do I Register?

Registering on Neighborly is a simple process. Enter your name, your email, and create a password. If you have registered before, you do not need to register again. Just sign-in with your information. Neighborly is not compatible with the Internet Explorer web browser

What Are Required Documents?

You must include documents with your application that prove you qualify. These documents are:

A photo ID.
Proof of home occupancy.
Proof of your household’s current income. This may include:
- Pay stubs;
- Social Security Receipts;
- Pension Award Letters;
- Tax Returns (for retirement withdrawals).

To prove your household income, you must have income documents for every legal adult in your house. High school students do not count towards your household income.

Do I Qualify?

Check that you meet all the requirements before you apply. To be approved, you must:

Check that your home is in the Salt Lake City boundaries.
Occupy the home needing repairs.
Have major property repair needs.
Have 80% or less AMI household income.

Your household income must be 80% or less of the median income of the Salt Lake Metro area. The federal government calls this income level the Area Median Income, or AMI. You can find out your income level if you know the income of every person in your house. If you are not sure of your household income, we can help you!

Steps

Submit Your Online Application.

You will submit your Home Repair application online. You can find the Home Repair application by selecting the ‘Housing Programs’ option in the Neighborly portal. We do not accept paper applications. You can contact us if you have questions on the application. If you call us, we can walk you through applying over the phone.
We Review Your Application.

We check applications as you submit to make sure they are eligible. If you are not eligible, we will reject your application. If we cannot tell if you are eligible, we may contact you for more information. We will contact you 7 business days after you apply.

What’s Next

After you submit, we will review your application. You can check the status of your application on Neighborly. Select ‘View Application’ and look in the upper left corner. Your application info, including status, will be visible. A staff member will contact you to verify you are eligible. We generally decide on applications within 1-to-2 weeks. The whole repair process generally lasts for 3-to-6 months.

Our First Site Visit

If we approve your application, we will contact you about funding options and resources. Our loan officer will help you finalize details. Once we have all of your required documents, we will schedule site visits for inspections and bids. We will not visit your home without first contacting you by phone or email. One of our team staff will always be present for our first visit.
