Donner Trail Park Memorial Tree Grove
The Memorial Tree Grove at Donner Park Trail is Salt Lake City’s first official memorial tree grove. This collection of 83 trees will honor the memory of individuals, groups, or significant moments that have shaped our community.
The grove will feature 17 different species, each with its own designated place. Residents can reserve a tree with a $380 donation and choose from the available species. The first trees will be planted in spring 2027.
Each tree will become part of a living memorial that grows and changes over time. Donors will receive a certificate commemorating their tree and access to an online registry that will share the story behind each tree. The registry will launch in the Spring of 2027.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I help plant/care for my tree?
While we love getting the community involved, our team of arborists will be planting the trees in the Doner Memorial Tree Grove. Requests received prior to Arbor Day, April 30, 2027, will be included in an Arbor Day planting event that donors can expect an invitation to.
Can I select the tree species that will be planted?
Yes. 17 specific trees species have been selected for a predetermined locations within the grove to preserve its aesthetic. You may choose from these 17 specific species on a first come, first serve basis.
How long will it take for my tree to be planted?
Donations submitted prior to April 2027 can expect their tree to be planted as a part of our Arbor Day event. Donations received after April 2027 will be incorporated into our normal planting schedule (November- April).
Who can be memorialized?
You can dedicate a tree to honor loved ones, friends, groups, and historical events.
When can I visit the grove?
You can visit the Donner Trail Memorial Tree Grove during normal park hours. Monday – Sunday, 5 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Are plaques, decorations, or other tributes permitted?
For the longevity of the tree and surrounding environment, we kindly ask you do not leave tributes at the site or on the trees.
Plaques are not a part of our tree donation system. However, records will be kept digitally and available to donors and the public.
How will I know where my tree is located?
Donors will receive access to an online registry and map where they can see the exact location of their tree.

Is there parking at the grove?
Yes, there is free street parking surrounding the perimeter or the Donner Trail Park.
