Appeal a Parking or Civil Citation

Contesting a parking/civil citation may include providing your full name, mailing address and telephone number. It is important to include (upload) or bring with you any documentation such as images that may help the hearing officer get a better understanding of your appeal. Make sure to include a detailed explanation of your appeal.

Need to know

  • Parking citations must be contested within 20 calendar days from the date the ticket is issued.
  • Appeals are not allowed after 20 calendar days.
  • Only one hearing can be conducted per citation, whether that hearing is held online or in person.

Before you start

  • Be sure to have all photos, receipts and any supporting evidence before you start your appeal.
  • Make sure to include a detailed explanation of your appeal.
  • If the citation was issued to a vehicle while it was stolen, a complete police report (not just the police report number) must be included. Please request a police report from local police department.

Steps

Online Hearings

  • Use the online hearings link to find the citation in question.
  • Upload all photos, receipts, and supporting evidence for your appeal.
  • Review and sign that the information you provided is truthful.

In Person Hearings

  • Schedule an appointment with the Hearing or Collection officers.
  • Gather all photos, receipts and supporting evidence for you appeal. Bring this documentation to your scheduled appointment.

What’s next

Online hearing filed:

  • A Hearing Officer will issue a decision within 3 business days.
  • Once a Hearing Officer has made a decision you will be contacted via email, or you will need to return to Appeal Status Lookup page and use your appeal ID to check the results of your hearing.
  • Once a decision has been issued by a Hearing Officer, you will have 7 calendar days to comply or appeal the Hearing Officer’s decision.
  • Failure to comply with the Hearing Officer’s decision may result in, additional penalties and fees.
