WHEREAS, Salt Lake City is a diverse and inclusive city made up of entrepreneurs, artists, community organizers, educators, business leaders, and trailblazers across a broad spectrum with a growing Latino population and a thriving Latino business community; and
WHEREAS, in that spirit, the City recognizes the unique contributions of the Latino community during this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations through Support Latino Business, a rallying cry for local partners including community organizations, elected officials, business leaders, and owners, to celebrate the significant economic contributions Latino-owned businesses make, the jobs they help create, and the positive impact they bring to our community and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City is joining communities across the country for Support Latino Business Day to acknowledge and encourage support for our local Latino-owned businesses; and
WHEREAS, in the last five years, due in part to support from Salt Lake City, the Suazo Business Center helped create 245 new businesses in Salt Lake City, adding almost $40 million to Salt Lake City’s economy; and
WHEREAS, we invite residents, fellow business owners, and employees to connect with our local Latino organizations, such as the Suazo Business Center, Utah American Latino Chamber of Commerce, Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Latinos in Action, and/or Comunidades Unidas, to ask how we can better support Latino businesses in the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Erin Mendenhall, Mayor of Salt Lake City, proclaim September 14, 2022, as:
