Mayor Mendenhall joins the Salt Lake City Council to recognize November 2022 as Native American Heritage Month in SLC in joint ceremonial resolution

WHEREAS, Salt Lake City is built on homelands of the Northwestern Shoshone, Paiute, Goshute, Ute tribes and their respective bands who have called the Salt Lake Valley and the Wasatch Range home, and have been stewards of the land for thousands of years; and

WHEREAS, Native Americans residing within Salt Lake City are a unique and diverse population representing many tribal nations, their cultural values, celebrations and achievements; and

WHEREAS, Native Americans have contributed to the prosperity of Salt Lake City through treaties, resources, lands, stewardship, culture, traditions, and commerce; and

WHEREAS, we honor and celebrate the importance of Indigenous People, as distinguished scholars, veterans, teachers, athletes, artists, entrepreneurs, leaders, and more, and their immeasurable contributions to our City and to our society; and

WHEREAS, we strive to improve communications with, services to, and partnership with all City residents as we journey together on a quest for justice, equality, respect and prosperity.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Salt Lake City Council and Mayor of Salt Lake City declare the month of November 2022 as Native American Heritage Month.
