Mayor's Office of Access & Belonging

Mayor Mendenhall proclaims November 28, 2022, Marriage Equality Day in Salt Lake City in support of the Respect for Marriage Act progressing into law

WHEREAS, Salt Lake City strongly supports the signing of the Respect for Marriage Act bill into law; and

WHEREAS, the Respect for Marriage Act ensures that our LGBTQ+ community and interracial couples are protected equally under federal law because it would require the federal government to recognize a marriage between any two individuals so long as the marriage was valid in the state where it was performed, and also guarantees that those valid marriages are given full faith and credit regardless of the couple’s sex, race, ethnicity, or national origin; and

WHEREAS, Salt Lake City believes all people deserve to live their most authentic life without fear or uncertainty of the protection of basic human rights; and

WHEREAS, love is love and no person should be stripped of the right to marry the person they love.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Erin Mendenhall, Mayor of Salt Lake City, proclaim November 28, 2022, as:

Marriage Equality Day in Salt Lake City
