WHEREAS, Salt Lake City aspires to be the safest city in the country; and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City is committed to building a transportation network that encourages safe behaviors for all who use our streets; and
WHEREAS, reducing vehicle speeding through engineering, education and enforcement strategies is imperative to saving lives; and
WHEREAS, the City and community must work together for safer streets; and
WHEREAS, the City has a Vision Zero Task Force; and
WHEREAS, Vision Zero distinguishes itself from traditional road safety approaches by recognizing that people will sometimes make mistakes while operating vehicles, so the road system and related policies should be designed to ensure those inevitable mistakes do not result in severe injuries or fatalities to others who use our streets.
WHEREAS, a Vision Zero Action Plan will be achieved by 2035 to build on Salt Lake City’s long-standing commitment to traffic safety; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Erin Mendenhall, Mayor of Salt Lake City, do hereby proclaim Salt Lake City as a:
Vision Zero City
