WHEREAS, sports have the power to unite individuals from diverse backgrounds, fostering teamwork, camaraderie, and mutual respect; and
WHEREAS, inclusion in sports plays a crucial role in promoting equity, breaking down barriers, and creating opportunities for individuals of all abilities, genders, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and socio-economic backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, embracing diversity and promoting inclusivity in sports leads to a stronger, more vibrant sporting community that celebrates the unique talents and contributions of every participant; and
WHEREAS, recognizing and supporting LGBTQ+ athletes ensures they can compete and participate in sports environments free from discrimination, prejudice, and bias, fostering a more inclusive sporting culture; and
WHEREAS, inclusive sports programs provide a platform for personal growth, promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and a sense of belonging for all individuals involved; and
WHEREAS, promoting inclusion in sports fosters empathy, understanding, and acceptance, challenging societal norms and stereotypes, and creating a more tolerant and inclusive society as a whole; and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City is committed to fostering and promoting inclusion in all aspects of our community and culture; and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City is honored to host the 2023 High School National Invite ultimate tournament June 16-17 at the Regional Athletic Complex; and
WHEREAS, we are excited to welcome the top 32 teams from across the nation, and show our love and support to all athletes who were invited to play in the tournaments based on their performance during the 2022-2023 fall and spring seasons; and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City urges our legislative leaders to recognize the inequality of Utah House Bill 11 and its devastating impact on our transgender youth.
