Mayor Jackie Biskupski to kick off farmers market season in Salt Lake City by proclaiming June 8-15 “Salt Lake City Farmers Market Week”

On Wednesday, June 8, Mayor Jackie Biskupski will celebrate the summer farmers market season by proclaiming June 8-15 “Salt Lake City Farmers Market Week.” The Salt Lake Downtown Farmers Market marks its 25th year in business and opens on June 11; the Sugar House Farmers Market on June 8; and the 9th West Farmers Market on June 26.

Mayor Biskupski will join in the media launch of the Downtown Farmers Market at 10:30 a.m. at Pioneer Park. At 5 p.m., the Mayor will cut the ribbon to open the weekly Sugar House Farmers Market at Fairmont Park. She will also read the proclamation, which celebrates the markets’ important role in the local economy and support for small businesses.

“There is nothing quite like sampling that first local produce at the start of farmers market season,” Mayor Biskupski said.  “Farmers markets help us build our local economy, they sustain vendors’ families, they spawn new business start-ups, and they invite people to visit and take part in the strength and diversity of Salt Lake City.”

The 9th West Farmers Market, formerly known as the People’s Market, will open on June 26 at Jordan Park, 1000 South and 900 West. It operates on Sundays throughout the summer.

When and where: Wednesday, June 8, 10:30 a.m., for the Downtown Farmers Market, at Pioneer Park, 350 South 300 West, Salt Lake City.

At 5 p.m., Mayor Biskupski will read the proclamation and open the Sugar House Farmers Market at Fairmont Park, 1040 East Sugarmont Drive.
