Global medical technology company expands manufacturing facility in Salt Lake City

Stryker, one of the world’s leading medical technology companies, is driven to make healthcare better and they are upholding that mission in Salt Lake City. The company relocated two manufacturing operations to Salt Lake City last December, and recently announced it will expand its operations within the City.

The company’s 137,000 sq. ft. facility located at 4870 West 2100 South includes 47,000 sq. ft. which will be used for this expansion, adding up to 540 jobs and an estimated $100 million in capital investment in Salt Lake City. Stryker’s expansion will allow the company to increase product line and new acquisition manufacturing at the site.

“Salt Lake City’s expert talent and world-class research and education facilities make it a great fit for Stryker’s focus on providing innovative products that power meaningful outcomes,” says Mark Paul, president of Stryker’s Neurovascular division. “We are pleased to continue our expansion in the area, and look forward to partnering with Utah’s state and local governments in the future.”

Stryker’s investment last year was the first to be accomplished under Salt Lake City’s new Department of Economic Development. SLC DED worked as the City liaison as part of “Team Utah,” which includes the Economic Development Corporation of Utah (EDCUtah) and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) to ensure the company’s permitting needs were met. SLC DED’s Business Development team has continued to work closely with the company as they’ve worked towards this expansion process.

“It’s no surprise that the reasons why Stryker relocated their manufacturing facility to Salt Lake City nearly a year ago are the same reasons they have chosen to expand within the City,” says Lara Fritts, Director of Salt Lake City’s Department of Economic Development. “With the University of Utah Hospital, Research Park, and a growing life sciences industry, not to mention our strategic location and access via ground, air, and rail transportation, expansion in the capital city is a sound business decision for Stryker and we are thrilled to continue this partnership.”
