Beginning Sunday, August 24, crews will start the paving portion of the 1300 East Improvements Project to replace aged pavement and create safer conditions for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. 

The first section of paving work will take place between 2100 South and I-80, continuing through mid-September. Once this stretch is complete, crews will move south to repave 1300 East between I-80 and Zenith Avenue beginning in mid-September. 

To reduce traffic disruptions and delays, all work will take place overnight. The full project is expected to be completed by the end of November.

What to expect:

• Paving will take place Sunday–Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., and Friday–Saturday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Between 2100 South and I-80, 1300 East will be fully closed at night from Aug. 24–26, then reduced to one lane in each direction at night through Sept. 8. Drivers should use Highland Drive or 700 East as alternate routes.
• During the day, at least two lanes will remain open, though lanes may be shifted to allow new pavement to cool.
• Paving south of I-80 is anticipated to begin in mid-September. Drivers should expect nighttime lane shifts with up to two lanes closed, and one lane closed during the day.
• Nearby residents may notice additional noise, dust, and vibration during nighttime hours.

Anticipated schedule of nightly impacts:

• Aug. 24–26: 1300 East will be closed in both directions between 2100 South and Wilmington Avenue. The intersection at 2100 South and 1300 East will also be closed.
• Aug. 27: The westbound I-80 on-ramp from southbound 1300 East and western side streets will be closed. 1300 East will be reduced to one southbound lane.
• Aug. 28: The westbound I-80 on-ramp from northbound 1300 East will be closed. 1300 East will be reduced to one northbound lane.
• Aug. 29–Sept. 1: Construction paused for Labor Day weekend.
• Sept. 2–8: 1300 East will be reduced to one lane in each direction between 2100 South and I-80 while crews finish paving.
• Mid-September: Paving south of I-80 begins. Drivers can expect lane shifts, with up to two lanes closed.
