Salt Lake City CRA approves $6.4 million to expand affordable homeownership

May 13, 2026

The Salt Lake City Community Reinvestment Agency (CRA) today approved nearly $6.4 million in funding to support affordable homeownership projects in Salt Lake City, including townhomes, single-family homes, and down payment assistance tools.

The funding will support homes for low- and moderate-income households through shared equity and community land trust models designed to preserve long-term affordability.

“We want Salt Lake City to be a place where families can build a future and remain in the neighborhoods they love,” said Mayor Erin Mendenhall, executive director of the CRA. “These projects will help more residents purchase a home, build equity, and stay rooted in our city.”

Now in its second year, the Residential Wealth Building Pilot Program supports strategies that expand access to homeownership while maintaining long-term affordability.

The CRA released the competitive funding opportunity in October 2025. Applications were evaluated based on financial sustainability, affordability, and project readiness.

The approved projects include:

Gladhouse 3

1084 West 1700 South

Developer: Community Development Corporation of Utah (CDCU)
Funding: $2.4 million

Groundbreaking: Mid 2026

The project will create eight affordable single-family cottage court-style homes for households earning at or below 80% AMI through a community land trust model. Funding also includes support for down payment assistance, matched savings, and homebuyer counseling programs.

Brix on Tenth
1549 South 1000 West

Developer: Garbett Homes, in partnership with Homium
Funding: $4 million

Groundbreaking: Early to mid-2026

Brix on Tenth will create 23 deed-restricted townhomes for households earning between 80% and 100% of Area Median Income (AMI), helping expand homeownership opportunities for moderate-income and workforce households. The project uses a shared equity model designed to keep homes affordable for future buyers.
