Community and Homeless Outreach Court

COMMUNITY AND HOMELESS OUTREACH COURT

Community and Homeless Court is a specialized outreach court that provides access to justice and community resources to those experiencing homelessness, those in supportive housing, sober living, treatment centers, and other locations. 

The court endeavors to foster respectful and trusting relationships with the court being held in familiar and accessible environments. 

This court hopes to promote community reintegration, self-sufficiency, and improve quality of life for our unsheltered community. 

The court aims to resolve legal barriers, intercept the revolving door of incarceration, promote accountability, support stability, and promote access to housing, employment, benefits, and other resource needs.

Cases Handled:

  • Class B and Class C misdemeanor criminal violations and infractions are alleged to have occurred within Salt Lake City.
  • Salt Lake County Justice Court where appropriate.
  • Recall warrants for West Valley City Justice Court where appropriate.
  • Matters with the Third District Court may be handled depending on the availability of a judge.

Cases Not Handled:

  • We CANNOT address matters from any other court.
  • No DUIs or related offenses
  • No battery or assault
  • No domestic violence

Community and Homeless Outreach Court is held at various locations in Salt Lake City. These locations provide access to justice and resources for our unsheltered community.
