October 2026 Update: All major work on the southbound side of 1200 East is complete! Roadway work on the northbound side is expected to begin during the week of October 19th. While crews work on asphalt removal and replacement the road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please park on neighboring streets or remove your vehicles from your driveway before 7 a.m. each day. Street parking is available on 1200 East between 200 South and 500 South, and on 400 South between 1100 East and Douglas Street.
Overview
Salt Lake City will reconstruct 1200 East between 500 South and 300 South. Work will include full reconstruction of the asphalt roadway and median improvements. Curb ramps will be reconstructed to meet current ADA standards. Sidewalk, driveway approaches, curb, and gutter will be replaced as needed. See map below for specific locations of work. Construction will continue through October 2026.
Improvements include
- New asphalt to replace worn pavement
- Repairs to sidewalks, curbs, gutters, curb ramps, and driveway approaches as needed
- Repairs to the 1200 East median to improve drainage and safety
What to Expect During Construction
- Daytime construction noise, dust and intermittent access limitations Monday to Friday while reconstruction is taking place
- 7 day cure time on new concrete infrastructure, including drive way approaches
- On-street parking restrictions
- Park strip landscaping remediation will take happen in spring 2027
Landscaping and Irrigation
Landscaping may be disturbed during construction. The project team will restore impacted landscaping in kind. This may include replacing grass with seed or sod and replacing flowers, bushes, or shrubs with the same or a similar species and size. Construction will take place adjacent to front yards, park strips, and other landscaped areas where irrigation is present. Crews will do their best to avoid irrigation lines and sprinkler heads. We proactively look for and repair irrigation issues caused by construction, but if you notice a problem that has not yet been addressed, please contact the project team. If irrigation infrastructure is damaged during construction, we will coordinate repairs. The project team cannot reimburse for repairs completed by third parties.
Trash Service
Garbage collection will continue as normal. Please set your bins out as usual, crews will move them if needed.
