WHEREAS, Chronic Disease Day is observed annually on July 10; and
WHEREAS, Chronic Disease Day was founded by Good Days,a national non-profit charitable organization that lifts the burdens of chronic illness through assistance, advocacy, and, awareness; and
WHEREAS, Chronic Disease Day began as an awareness campaign utilizing the stories and voices of those directly affected by chronic disease to advocate to lower the number of preventable illnesses, advance access to care for unpreventable conditions, and build healthier communities; and
WHEREAS, Chronic disease affects millions of individuals throughout Utah and accounts for 7 of the top 10 causes of premature death in Americans throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, hundreds of thousands of Americans suffer from unpreventable and costly chronic and rare conditions, while the deadliest and costliest chronic diseases, including cardiovascular, stroke, diabetes, cancer, and obesity, are also the most preventable; and
WHEREAS, Chronic Disease Day promotes actionable resources to reduce individual risk and lower the rate of chronic disease in America; and
WHEREAS, Chronic Disease Day is supported by advocacy organizations dedicated to assisting patients to overcome challenges with access to care throughout Utah and across the United States.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Erin Mendenhall, Mayor of Salt Lake City, proclaim July 10th as:
