Salt Lake City 911 Director Scott Freitag fired from position following drunk driving arrest

Mayor Jackie Biskupski has fired Salt Lake City 911 (SLC911) Director Scott Freitag, effective immediately, following news of Freitag’s arrest for drunk driving on January 3rd.

“There is no acceptable reason for anyone to put innocent lives in danger by getting behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated, especially an individual leading a critical public safety agency,” said Mayor Jackie Biskupski. “While I am angry and disappointed in Scott’s behavior, I do hope he gets help to address his problems, and that he finds the support of loved ones that he needs at this time.”

Freitag was pulled over in Kaysville by a Centerville Police Department officer on suspicion of driving under the influence. According to the report, Freitag failed a field sobriety test and had an open container in his vehicle. At the time of his arrest, he was driving a vehicle issued by Salt Lake City.

Freitag was initially appointed Director of SLC911 in May 2012, by Mayor Ralph Becker. He was reappointed in July 2016. SLC911 Deputy Director Lisa Burnette will serve as acting director until a replacement can be found. SLC911 handles an average of 1,635 calls per day, serving both Salt Lake City and Sandy City.
