New tech-focused creative co-working community set to open in Salt Lake City

Kiln announced today it has signed a lease agreement to open a new location in Salt Lake City. In addition to a location in Lehi, the new co-working community will have a space at The Gateway, set to open this summer.

Kiln’s location at The Gateway – which has seen significant revitalization thanks to improvements from Vestar and an influx of high-profile tenants – places them among other innovators in downtown Salt Lake City and within the technology ecosystem that is Silicon Slopes. Kiln’s 23,000 sq. ft. space (with room to grow) near the main courtyard on the north end of The Gateway will accommodate more than 400 members.

Kiln’s offerings will include private offices for teams, resident desks for individuals, and drop-in club memberships for creators on the go. Members will enjoy amenities that include healthy refreshments, meeting rooms and collaboration space, phone booths, reception services, a recording studio, a café, and a theater that seats more than 100.

“Kiln is a community designed to inspire, connect, and accelerate growth,” says Arian Lewis, founder of Kiln. Lewis’ background includes spearheading the creation of co-working sites around the world under the Rise brand created by Barclays. He says Salt Lake City is prime for a space like this, “The amount and level of innovation coming out of Salt Lake City has many taking notice, both at home and abroad. Our goal is to be the home in SLC to help accelerate growth for our members.”

Salt Lake City’s Department of Economic Development team spotted Kiln shortly after the department was created, and actively worked to recruit Kiln to the city. “Members of my team were in Boston as part of the annual Downtown Alliance Urban Exploration trip, and we utilized that opportunity to meet with Lewis in New York City,” says Lara Fritts, economic development director for Salt Lake City. “We have been involved in Kiln’s process since then, helping them to find a home here, and coming up with creative solutions so ensure their space will fit their needs.”

Kiln is poised to provide an eclectic home for entrepreneurs, startups and a landing pad for corporates and tech giants who are steadily setting up new satellites in Utah.
