Council Statement on Statewide Fireworks Restrictions
SALT LAKE CITY, June 25, 2026 – Due to wildfires affecting communities across Utah and heightened risk from hot, dry conditions, the Salt Lake City Council welcomes Governor Spencer Cox’s decision to prohibit personal fireworks statewide through July 5.
The Council appreciates the efforts of Governor Cox, state leaders, firefighters, and emergency management personnel who are working to protect lives and communities across Utah from extreme fire danger. This statewide action provides clear, consistent direction and strengthens efforts to prevent additional human-caused fires.
A single spark can cause significant harm to families, neighborhoods, open spaces, wildlife and emergency responders. Community members looking for ways to celebrate are encouraged to attend organized events, including Salt Lake City’s public drone shows on July 3 at Jordan Park and July 24 at Liberty Park.
Know the Rules: Statewide Fireworks Ban
Under the statewide restriction announced by Governor Cox, personal fireworks are prohibited throughout Salt Lake City and across Utah through July 5. After that, Salt Lake City’s fireworks restriction map will once again determine where fireworks are prohibited. The State Forester may also consider extending the statewide ban through the Pioneer Day holiday.
Community members should review official state and Salt Lake City information for details about the restriction and future updates.
