The Salt Lake City Council unanimously passed a resolution naming our building the “John L. Baxter Courthouse.” Long before “court is a service, not a place” became catchy, Judge Baxter was modeling how to better deliver court services.

For example, he pioneered SLC’s homeless court over a decade ago, and then tirelessly held court at the Weigand Center every other Friday to help those struggling with homelessness to clear their court cases.

In addition, he was also the heartbeat of SLC’s veteran’s court. He tirelessly ran that calendar every other Thursday to help veterans involved in the justice system successfully resolve their cases.

Thank you, Judge Baxter, for your two decades of service.  Thank you to the Salt Lake City Council, Mayor Mendenhall⁩, and the rest of the SLC government team, for helping us honor “JB” in this meaningful and lasting way.
