Exciting news! Salt Lake City and Rocky Mountain Power are bringing renewable energy to you! With a recent approval by the Public Service Commission, Salt Lake City now has the opportunity to consider adopting an ordinance to enact the Community Clean Energy Program. If adopted by the Council later this spring, this program would allow Rocky Mountain Power customers in Salt Lake City the choice to support new utility-scale clean energy to serve our community.
The program is a collaboration between 19 local governments that formed Utah Renewable Communities, including Salt Lake City and Rocky Mountain Power, which have been working together for the last seven years. If the ordinance is passed, nearly all Rocky Mountain Power customers in Salt Lake City would be enrolled in early 2027 with the opportunity to exit at any time. A new clean energy line item will be automatically added to Rocky Mountain Power bills at $4 per month for residential customers. Income-qualified customers on the HELP program will see a corresponding bill credit, allowing them to participate for free.
The Community Clean Energy Program gives Utahns in participating communities the power to choose clean, reliable, affordable electricity, supporting healthier families, communities, and the environment. By investing in local clean energy, the program will support Utah’s growing energy needs while keeping power reliable and the air cleaner.
