Special Event Permit Frequently Asked Questions

When do I need a permit?

Whenever you or your organization would like to hold any kind of activity (event, demonstration, film/photo, or block party) on Salt Lake City public property, you should fill out an application and submit it to our office. We only permit activities held on Salt Lake City public property (parks, roads, sidewalks, plazas, etc.). A permit is not required through our office for activities taking place only on private property. For more information or answers about the property you would like to request, please contact us.

NOTE: If you are holding an event completely on private property, but want to serve alcohol, you do NOT need a special event permit. Instead you will need a DABS permit from the state and local consent from Salt Lake City Business Licensing. Contact Salt Lake City Business Licensing by email business.license@slcgov.com or visit their website).
