BE W.I.L.D – Welcome to our Public Lands!
What are Public Lands?
Public Lands are parks, trails and natural lands, urban forests, and golf courses owned by Salt Lake City. These lands provide unique outdoor spaces that embrace diversity, inclusivity, and the shared environment of nature.
Prioritizing time outside

Whether you prefer a park or a trail, public land remains one of the last free places for the community to come together. Spending time outdoors with family, friends, or by yourself plays a vital role in supporting mental and physical health. Connecting with nature makes us happier people in a more vibrant city. At the Salt Lake City Department of Public Lands, we recognize that not everyone has equal access to these natural areas. Based information gained for the Reimagine Nature Master Plan, we are working to increase knowledge about available green space, improve transportation, and make public lands readily available to all residents.
A vision for the future

In the next 20 years Salt Lake City will be full of green spaces that are welcoming to all. The City is going to accomplish this goal by:
- Connecting people to information about their parks system through education and engagement.
- Increasing the ease of access to public lands, making it easier to travel to, between and within them.
- Working towards the goal of having 95% of SLC Residents live within ¼ mile of a park, multi-use trail, or natural land by 2040.
