City and County Building Earthquake Damage Repairs

Project overview
On March 18, 2020, a 5.7 magnitude earthquake hit the Salt Lake City area. As a result, the City and County Building (which services as City Hall for Salt Lake City) sustained damage to the building’s interior plaster work. The scope of the project was to repair and restore the City and County Building to its initial state prior to the earthquake. The repair work aimed to restore and reinforce the interior plaster and paint surfaces of a building that were damaged. The project involved a full assessment of the affected areas, planning for repairs, and implementing measures to ensure the structural integrity and aesthetics of the interior spaces.
Project updates
Phase 10, the final phase of this project, was completed in August, 2024 and brought an end to the project.
The project’s work was performed in phases to allow the building to remain open. Occupants were relocated to temporary offices while work occurred in their areas. The repairs were funded as part of an insurance claim.
