April 2025 Update
Construction will be starting in mid to late April. The tentative plan is to start construction on the 900 East / 100 South (SB) bus stop and continue southward on 900 East. The number of bus stops completed per week will vary based upon the difficulty of the construction.
Overview
Salt Lake City’s Transportation Division is partnering with UTA and UDOT to improve bus stops on 900 East, State Street, and Redwood Road.
Bus stop designs vary by location but typically include concrete pads in the park strip, shelters, benches, and trash cans. The improvements will make bus stops accessible for more riders, including people with disabilities.
To keep the bus moving and to make our transit investments go farther, some bus stops may be relocated or removed. On State Street and Redwood Road, stops that are not near a signalized crosswalk may be removed.

FAQ
Why does bus stop consolidation happen at the same time as bus stop improvements?
Removing some stops on a bus route can keep the bus moving and make the bus more reliable. By combining some bus stops that are close together, we can also improve more bus routes and provide better amenities at bus stops with the funding we have. However, some riders may have to walk farther to get to the bus.
How did we make decisions about bus stop consolidation?
For bus stop consolidation, we prioritize bus stops that:
- have a higher proportion of riders that are elderly or have disabilities
- have higher ridership
- are near key destinations like hospitals, schools, and grocery stores
- are near a different transit route (transfer points)
- have already been improved to be accessible for elderly riders and riders with disabilities
- are near improved street crossings for people walking and biking, especially for higher speed roads and roads with a greater number of cars
When will stops be consolidated?
Stops will be removed after bus stop construction is completed in 2025. There will be signs at the bus stops to notify riders before the stops are removed.
