April 2025 Construction Update

Work is progressing on the pedestrian upgrades at the Ballpark Station and is expected to wrap up by early May. Traffic is shifting between inside and outside lanes, so please pay attention to construction signs. Sidewalk closures are also in effect, though one side will always remain open for pedestrian traffic.

In the coming weeks, pavement markings, including stop bars and crosswalks, will be installed.

On Friday, April 11th, early morning work will take place between 12:00 AM and 4:30 AM. This work must be done while trains are not in service.

Project Overview

Salt Lake City will build two new signalized pedestrian crosswalks across 1300 South along either side of the TRAX rail line to improve access and safety for people walking in the area. Currently, pedestrians can cross the street using the traffic signals at the 300 West and West Temple intersections, which are one block away from the Ballpark TRAX Station. However, many people still cross the street near the Station, showing a need for safe and accessible crosswalks.

Salt Lake City recognized the need for pedestrian infrastructure improvements near the Ballpark TRAX station and applied for, and was awarded, Community Development Block Grant funding for the new signalized crosswalks. The project team reviewed vehicle volumes, crash data, videos of pedestrians crossing the street, and case studies to determine the best locations for crosswalks. Two crosswalks, one on each side of the rail line, best match the observed pedestrian travel patterns across 1300 South.

Construction is expected in spring or summer 2025.
