Mayor Jackie Biskupski’s statement on additional appointments and ongoing process

As part of an ongoing appointment process, Mayor Jackie Biskupksi announced today the selection of Nate Salazar as a Community Liaison for the Mayor’s Office, as well as the reappointment of City Attorney Margaret Plane, Justice Court Director Curtis Preece, and Finance Director Gina Chamness.

“My office will continue to be open and transparent as we work to build a team to serve the people of Salt Lake City,” said Mayor Jackie Biskupski on the appointment process. “This is a deliberate process, and the people of Salt Lake City and city employees should know, these decisions are being made with the utmost care and will be made in a manner that ensures a smooth transition.”

“I am pleased to have Nate Salazar come on board as one of our Community Liaisons. Our community relations team, led by Jennifer Seelig, is a key function in the Mayor’s Office and we will build a team reflective of the diverse neighborhoods we serve,” said Mayor Biskupski on the appointment of Nate Salazar. “For his entire career, Nate has been actively involved in Salt Lake City and his dedication to the people of this city, especially underrepresented communities, is unmistakable.”

Nate Salazar was raised in the East Central neighborhood, he attended Bryant Middle School and East High School. Nate is actively involved in the Douglas Neighborhood Association and serves as the vice-chair of East Central Community Council. Since 2013, he has served as chair of the Salt Lake County Democratic Hispanic Caucus. Nate serves on the Board of Trustees of the Utah AIDS Foundation, and is the president and co-founder of the Frank Cordova Foundation. In 2014, Nate was appointed by Mayor Ralph Becker to serve on the Salt Lake City Public Library Board of Directors, and is currently vice chair of the board. Nate holds a Master’s degree in Social Work with an emphasis in Community Based Practice.

Mayor Biskupski also announced the reappointment of several department heads:

City Attorney Margaret Plane has worked in the City Attorney’s office since 2007 and was appointed City Attorney in 2013.

Justice Court Director Curtis Preece was appointed Justice Court Director in 2011.

Finance Director Gina Chamness has served Salt Lake City in various roles since 2006. In 2014 she was appointed Finance Director.
