Now in its 14th year, the Salt Lake City Marathon has established itself as a world-renowned event. Drawing thousands of athletes from all 50 states and over a dozen countries, the marathon provides all with the opportunity to race, enjoy festivities, and experience our beautiful Capitol City.
FULL PROCLAMATION:
WHEREAS, approximately 7,000 athletes from all 50 states and 16 countries will participate in the 2017 Alaska Airlines Salt Lake City Marathon; and
WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City Marathon provides athletes of all ages and abilities a unique opportunity to experience the energy of Salt Lake City through the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 5-K Race, 10-K Skate, Kids K, and Bike Tour; and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City, with abundant recreation opportunities, has a long history of supporting and promoting physical fitness and healthy living; and
WHEREAS, over 1,000 local volunteers will support the athletes, and public safety teams led by the Salt Lake City Police and Fire Departments will keep all participants and spectators safe; and
WHEREAS, many athletes will use this opportunity to raise funds for the Huntsman Hometown Heroes program, which has provided over $5 million dollars for cancer research at the Huntsman Cancer Institute since 2003; and
WHEREAS, in its 14th year, the Salt Lake City Marathon has established itself as a premier event in the Capital City.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Jacqueline M. Biskupski, Mayor of Salt Lake City, do hereby recognize April 22, 2017 as:
Salt Lake City Marathon Day
And encourage all residents to join the fun by cheering on spectators, participating in the races, or attending the post-race festivities.
