Water line work will create traffic restrictions on State Street from South Temple to State Capitol through late summer

April 22, 2022

Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities (SLCDPU) advises drivers to plan ahead for traffic impacts on State Street, between North Temple and 300 North, starting as early as Monday, April 25. State Street will be closed to through-traffic, available to local traffic only. Crews will replace the existing water main on State Street between 200 North and 1st Avenue and will rehabilitate the sewer lines at various locations along 200 North, State Street, and Hillside Avenue.

Major traffic impacts will occur on:

  • State Street, between South Temple and 300 North
  • Intersection of State Street and North Temple
  • 200 North, between State Street and Main Street

Drivers should use an alternate route and avoid the area whenever possible.

Work on these key public utilities is required to maintain the infrastructure necessary for continued downtown growth, and to build resiliency into the water and sewer systems. These efforts will require significant impacts to nearby residents, businesses, and the traveling public. This project is scheduled for completion in August 2022.
