Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall has appointed Jorge Chamorro as the new director of Salt Lake City’s Department of Public Services. Chamorro has served as acting director since April 2022, following the retirement of former director Lorna Vogt.
“Choosing Jorge to lead Salt Lake City’s Public Services Department was an easy decision,” said Mayor Mendenhall. “Jorge brings both enthusiasm and expertise to his position and the divisions he leads are better for it.”
Chamorro will lead City employees across six divisions: Administrative Services, Compliance, Engineering, Facilities, Fleet, and Streets.
“I’m looking forward to this new chapter in Public Services as I remain committed to fulfilling its mission, providing equitable access to municipal services and supporting the success and wellbeing of our employees,” Chamorro said.
Chamorro has worked for Salt Lake City for almost seven years, starting in the summer of 2015. He began his career with the City in the Youth and Family Division, undertaking various roles. In March 2019, Chamorro became the director of the Compliance Division. Two years later, in 2021, Chamorro became the Deputy Director of the Department of Public Services, overseeing the Compliance, Facilities, Fleet, and Streets divisions. As deputy, he played a key role in emergency response efforts, the department’s diversity, equity, and inclusion work, and strategic planning.
Chamorro’s appointment was approved by the City Council following advice and consent at its May 3 formal meeting.
