New Central City restaurant opening with help from Salt Lake City economic development loan

Feb. 19, 2025

The Goat Head will use the loan for equipment, tenant improvements ahead of its opening

The Salt Lake City Council recently approved a $100,000 Economic Development Loan Fund (EDLF) loan for The Goat Head, a restaurant located at 702 S. 300 East.

The Goat Head, opening this week, will create a unique culinary experience in the heart of Central City. With this concept, the owners aim to meticulously craft dishes as an ode to their deep-rooted love for bringing people together with good food. The menu will feature an array of options highlighting vegan and vegetarian specialties.

“I’m excited to see how this restaurant will foster community through its passion for good food,” said Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall. “I am proud of the work our Economic Development team is doing to support our local businesses.”

Working with the Department of Economic Development’s Business Development division, The Goat Head received a $100,000 EDLF loan to assist with tenant improvements and equipment needed to open the restaurant. This space will re-activate a prominent corner impacted by the pandemic.

“The Goat Head is an example of authentic cuisine that embodies human connection and resiliency,” said Eva Lopez Chavez, City Council Member for District 4. “I’m excited to welcome a restaurant that brings a fresh culinary experience to Central City while strengthening our local economy and community.”

“Investing in The Goat Head reflects our mission to support businesses that enrich the community. This restaurant will not only create jobs but also contribute to the unique culinary identity of Salt Lake City,” said Lorena Riffo-Jenson, Director of Salt Lake City’s Department of Economic Development.

The EDLF aims to stimulate business development and expansion, create employment opportunities, encourage private investment, promote economic growth, and enhance neighborhood vitality and commercial enterprise in Salt Lake City by making loans available to businesses. The program’s overarching goal is to invest in viable businesses that produce strong economic returns and provide positive social and environmental impacts. Learn more here
